.musecast Episode 6: A Musical Interlude

Share

With me mentioning my history of music fandom when I blogged about the convictions and imprisonment of the Russian punk group Pussy Riot, I figured I could take some time to discuss where my musical tastes have led me throughout the years, including more self-incriminating anecdotes about my history as a fan of rap music in the 80s. More pictures from the University of Toledo accompany my wavering voice (darn seasonal allergies.)

[Season 1 of the .musecast is currently offline due to blip.tv shutting down. Episodes will be reposted when circumstances permit me to do so. – Sean]

Link list for Episode #6:
My University of Toledo photos from 2012.08.06
My last.fm account and radio station (scroll down and click the “Play seanshannon’s Library Radio” button to play my station, but be warned, it is very eclectic and unpredictable)
The Beastie Boys’ “Hold It Now Hit It”
(my favourite track from Licensed to Ill, both when I was young and now)
Eric B. and Rakim’s “Paid in Full (video version)” (they don’t make MCs as smooth as Rakim any longer)
EPMD’s “You Gots to Chill” (no one flows like this these days)
The Afros’ “Feel It” (when hip-hop was still hip-hop)
Ed Lover doing the Ed Lover Dance (if you watched Yo! MTV Raps back in the day, this should put a smile on your face)
|Michael Jones’ “After the Rain”
(the first song on that new age sampler I mentioned)
Peter Buffett’s “The Waiting”
(one of the first pieces of “space music” I ever heard and still one of my favourites)
David Lanz and Paul Speer’s “Eagle’s Path” (more rock-based new age)
Björk’s “Play Dead” (one of her better earlier songs/videos, little known in the US because it wasn’t released here until Greatest Hits came out)
Björk’s “Bachelorette” (greatest song and video ever, period)
Tori Amos’ “Cloud on My Tongue” (my favourite song from her favourite album, Under the Pink)
Tom Waits’ “Tom Traubert’s Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen” (I need no reason to link to this)
My Amazon wishlist (I still need that Flip camera)
